Why

I often look around and ask why
Of such a waste of wars gone by?
I often ask myself the question, why
Why did so many have to die?

The Bible speaks of wars and
Rumors of wars,
And so many have fought on
Many different shores.

Why did they put themselves in
Harm's way
To ensure that liberty and freedom
Was here to stay?

They interrupted their stations in life;
Left families, huband or wife.
To answer their nation's call;
To ensure that liberty would not fall.

They fought on the sea, on land and
In the air;
They often tread where no
Other would dare.

Of these men and women so
Few of us knew;
It's hard for us to envision the
Trials they went through.

The answer to my whys I can
See every day.
It's in the spirit of this land in
Which our freedoms lay.

It's in the freedoms that we often
Take for granted;
Though there are some who's
Views may be slanted.

It's in the freedoms we hold in our
Hearts oh so dear;
And reflected in the patriotic songs
Sung so loud and clear.

I thank God for the men and women
Oh so brave,
Who ensure the freedom of future
Generations are saved.

I ask God to strenghten and bless
Those left behind;
And to remember that so many
Serve with their life on the line.
