Analysis of Being Sad Is Cool
Nola Debera Leech 2003 (Iowa)
Being sad has become cool
Drowning yourself in a pool of tears is the latest trend
If you shout “I want to die” in the middle of a high school cafeteria the only response you’ll get is “same”
Pain has become an atheistic
Your weapon of choice is in a black and white collage on someone's Tumblr
Your friends compare their father’s crime records
How did it get so easy to be popular?
It would be better to say that a high percentage are faking it, but it is only grim truths we are left to bare
Everyone is sad, because it’s cool? No it’s only cool because everyone is sad
Crippling depression is part of a new teen vocabulary
Jokes about suffering are the funniest you know?
This disease has a name, it’s your child
Crying in the bleakness of its future
Now, don’t get me wrong, I’m not criticizing because I’m sad too
Because everyone else is
It’s cool
