Analysis of To my son
once upon a time I thought you would never leave
to home and hearth you clung, you did cleave
you did your best to stay young and not to age
little did you know time was just a fleeting page
you tried to make all the rules we should live by
you fought me at ever turn, sometimes made me cry
your heart seemed so full of anger, really you where scared
life had already been so unkind, you thought no one cared
I struggled to find a way to fully understand
but you kept your heart and soul under tight command
you held on so tight and at the same time distant
and threw it all you called the shot, so very insistent
and then suddenly one day in the blink of an eye
you stood before me all grown up, in wonder I did sigh
what changed, how could I not have seen what was happening
you became a man, giving me no choice but to be accepting
how the years have flown, you have made me so proud
a beautiful wife and two loving sons, happiness out loud
I am amazed by the wonderful life you have lovingly built
