Analysis of The Promise Of A Rainbow

Today's the anniversary of our
separation and the freedom I gained,
or the slavery, that all depends on
the perspective that one looks upon it.
It is a hard life which I lead, granted,
and sometimes the struggle pins me to sighs,
but there are moments of pure fired bliss too.
The times I catch a smile's light on my son,
he is only three, the world is fresh air,
it swirls in his wide imagination,
to watch innocent eyes capture pleasure,
that for me makes all of the tears worthwhile,
all the aches, pains that saturate my soul.

My three young daughters help around the house,
they are beautiful and never complain
when I can not buy them the latest clothes,
one day, I will treat them all for the love
they hold deep inside their little soft hearts,
but for now I must make sure they are fed,
so they can fulfil their dreams when older,
if I could get work I would, but I am
alone here and I have to make sure that
everything is flowing smoothly along.

The benefits we get every fortnight
are not enough to give us luxury,
but they are better than getting nothing.
I'm not sad that my husband isn't here,
quite the opposite really, he was bad,
always gambling and drinking away our
lives as we hid in the shadows of his
alcoholic anger; coloured with cold
insecurities and fears of being
a failure in his own father's dark eyes.
I am glad he is not here, for we can
at least move now into a future where
there is the promise of a bright rainbow.
