Analysis of March to a Different Drummer
In this world of people, there are those
Who will scramble through life.
They will give their soul
For money and for riches
For silver and for gold.
But I... I march to a different drummer.
I sing a different tune
I shall not bow on bended knee
To those who cannot see
Beyond their own decree.
I march to a different drummer.
I sing a different tune.
I`m careful not to trample
The rose that blooms in June.
I listen to the nightingale
Sing its lonesome song,
And wonder at this world of ours.
How did we go so wrong?
I hear the faint beat of a broken heart.
I ask, ``What can I do
To sooth the pain and misery?
p*ss my compassion enough for you?``
No. You need a world of people
Who know and understand.
Stand up my friend.
Come... I`ll show you my drummer.
Go marching to His tune.
My drummer is not of this world.
To outer spaces he`s been hurled.
I march to a different drummer
Than you will find around here.
As I march I sing a song.
He dries my many tears.
I march to a different drummer
I sing a different song.
I march harder and sing louder
When everything goes wrong.
Come. Stand up. He`ll play for you
So you can march along.
Soon we`ll have an army
Marching to His tune
A-whistling and a- singing.
They`ll pause for the rose in June.
They`ll marvel at its beauty
While they lend a helping hand,
So others can go marching.
They`ll know and understand.
We`ll march to a different drummer.
We`ll sing a different tune.
Onward, ever onward marching.
Don`t fret. There`ll be more soon.
They`ll hear our voices ringing
as they hear our distant singing.
Drawing closer ever closer
As we go marching on.
Some will not leave their riches.
For they have sold their soul.
They do not know that
When the marching is finished
There`ll be a city of gold.
Go. march to a different drummer.
Sing a different tune.
Don`t waste any time now.
This day will end too soon.
Too soon evening will be falling
Upon this world of ours.
Then there will be darkness.
Not even any stars.
Listen. You`ll hear the drummer.
He`ll lead you on your way
To where it always will be day.
Don`t waste time on this world`s riches.
I`ve been told that
Nothing can compare to
His city lined with gold.
Come march to a different drummer
Than this world has ever had.
While you are marching
Sing praises and be glad.
March to a different drummer.
Sing a different tune.
Onward, ever marching.
This day will end too soon.
Don`t forget, to others lend a hand.
