Analysis of David

O beautiful David,
how I struggle to climb your high pedestal.
To hold you,
and to love you.

But you are too close to the gods
for mere mortals
to reach.

And the marble perch
on which I have placed you
is too slippery
for clinging.

If only
you could
reach down
to me.
