Analysis of Oblivion

Sorrow wakes me from my dreams.
No kiss warms my cheek.
I am cold in the depths of my bones.
Even If I was swimming in lava
The cold would be my constant companion.
As I stretch my legs there are chains weighing me down
Clanking in my subconscious
Every time I step out of bed, I feel the waves of sadness pull me under.
I am drowning and the deeper I go
The easier it is to breathe.
I don't understand
The ocean crushes around me
Stealing my pain and replacing it with pressure
Pressure to let go
To be at peace
The ability to be someone else
But yet when I go deeper, I feel the despair
The loss
And the loneliness leaves me
As I go deeper a light begins to shine.
There is hope down here somewhere.
I just need to reach for it
Grab it with both hands
Press my lips to it and inhale.
The light brightens to almost blinding pitch
I almost have it; my fingers brush it
The single touch gives me elation and peace
If I can only capture it, I will be free
I try again and again but with each failure
The blackness sets in my bones
I am becoming weary and losing the battle
Salvation is in my grasp and I cannot reach it
With one last burst of my energy
I grab onto the light and allow it to surround me
I am weightless and the pain leaves my body
For the first time I feel the rightness of my choice
I feel the weight of life lift from my shoulders
As the breath leaves my body
I remember
Tomorrow I won't have to wake up
And a smile spreads across my lips.
