Analysis of Les Deux Mendiants

Maurice Rollinat 1846 (Châteauroux) – 1903 (Ivry-sur-Seine)

Reprenant leur chemin,
Tête basse, une main
Au sac bossu qu’ils portent,
Dans la cour, comme ils sortent,

Le petit pauvre épais
Lorgne d’un œil mauvais
Le petit monsieur mince
Dont la bouche se pince.

Le vieux s’en aperçoit.
« T’es jaloux ? Ya pas d’quoi !
Fait-il, d’une voix douce :
Entends-l’donc comme i’ tousse.

I’ cache un sang d’navets
Sous tous ses beaux effets,
Tandis q’toi, sans q’tu triches,

Tu fais rir’ vermillons
Tous les trous d’tes haillons,
Ça t’veng’ ben d’êt’ pas riche !
