Analysis of Lonely Wealth
Richard Newton Sherrer 1951 (Easton)
I saw conceit under the sun,
A person who has no other;
Neither having any son,
Nor of a sister or brother.
Yet there is no end to his toil,
Eyes were not satisfied with wealth;
Deprived of pleasure with soil,
And unhappy about his health.
But two are better than just one,
Because they have a good reward;
With labor from brother or son,
While both are praising the Lord.
If one falls the other will lift,
But woe to him who is alone;
With no rudder, a boat will drift,
Steers off course when the wind has blown.
For if two will lie together,
They will keep one another warm;
But if there is none to gather,
Then there will be a coolness form.
Even though a man might prevail,
Two would be able to withstand;
A threefold cord strength will not fail,
Since all three equalize demand.
