Analysis of Eclipse

In the midst of the cruelest moments,
we are given a chance to change.

In the midst of the hearts of the hopeless,
we are given a chance to correct and derange.

In the midst of a broken record's cursed refrain,
we are given a chance to rethink our past.

In the midst of the shadows within the minds of the insane,
we are given a chance to remember the denied,

and make it last.

About this poem

"Eclipse" is a poem I wrote as a 16-year-old teenage girl about discovering a new side of my mother. We were spending a great deal of time with another family, playing poker and other card games until the early morning hours. Until that point, my relationship with her had been tumultuous at best, often peppered with emotional and physical abuses. These social gatherings were very healing in so many ways, offering a new insight into her personality and the goodness within her heart. Those days felt neverending with wonder and excitement as they turned into weeks... but as we all know, nothing ever lasts forever.
