Analysis of My Heart's Desires

My heart’s desires,
Like writing in the sand,
Fleeting.
Temporary.
Trodden over by others, not looking.
Eroded by the ebb and flow of time.
Seemed so beautiful at the moment.
You meet me in that somber instant,
As I watch the last traces of my desires wash away.
You trust me with Your plan that You outlined before time in this vessel of clay.
Permanent.
Eternal.
Ordered by You.
I see myself remade
And follow, joyfully,
My heart’s desire.

About this poem

I wrote this poem in 2018 to commemorate a time of major change in my life. When my career and an important relationship took an abrupt 180 degree turn, I realized the only thing I had control over was how tightly I clung to my faith. It's Valentine's Day today, and it seemed the appropriate time to share this one. After all, Jesus is God's love letter to the world.

Celeste Fritsche

While I often dabbled in writing poetry growing up, I have recently found a new passion for doing so. When not at my desk job, or walking one of my dogs, I am typically writing poems, painting, wood burning, hand etching glass, or occasionally working with resin. I love to create, and I hope that my creations put a little bit of beauty back into this often dark and broken world. more…
