Analysis of The Man I Never Met
Dawn Morgan 1991 (Wilson)
The Man I Never Met
Do you remember I was asked, and I couldn’t recall
Did you know I was asked, and I didn’t at all
Memories slip and dreams fade when you cant remember.
The man I never met
What was the first car or best trip he’d ever taken
What was a hobby or best memory he love making
These are the questions I would think to ask
But never would because it’s in the past.
The man I never met.
Someone you look up to, a figure in guidance
Became a stranger for years, just silence.
The man I never met, that man, was you
I got to learn all the secrets; they were true.
But in the end, I would always love you.
-With Love Your Daughter,
Dawn

About this poem
This poem is based on my feelings of having an absent father, who recently passed away. I was his only child and I had to learn a lot of things about him.
