Analysis of I stand in front of the grandfather clock
I stand in front of the grandfather clock,
Watching the hands, waiting,
Waiting for it to reach the hour,
I stand there hearing the,
Tick,
Tick,
Tick,
I take my eyes off it and look at the door,
Locked.
My eyes go back to the clock,
Only seconds have passed,
I bow my head and pray for the hour to come faster,
But the clock stays the same speed as it always does,
I look back at the door,
Locked.
Too tired to stand, I sit, looking up at the seconds’ hand,
Watching it slowly move over each number,
I can’t take my eyes off of it,
I might miss the hour,
“Please, come soon, I need you.”
I look at the door,
Still locked.
I feel the vibration of my phone,
“I’m sorry, I can’t come over tonight, I will come over tomorrow I promise.”
The door stays locked.
I make my resting place in front of the clock,
Scared to leave it,
I fall asleep with my phone in my hand,
My eyelids looking up, at the clock,
And my ears tuned in to the lock.
I wake up minutes before midnight,
I sit up and watch the clock until the hour comes.
I check the door,
Locked.
The seconds finally hit the hour,
The clock rings out,
And I watch the door,
I feel my phone vibrate.
“I’m so sorry, I’ll come over tomorrow.”
I stand in front of the grandfather clock.
