Analysis of Coming of Age

Charles Fields II 1955 (Fort Bragg, NC)

Where is your heart?

You who are raised on love

resistant to the stains of hatred and brutality

able to shake off

of those who

seeking to paint their crimes

upon your spirit-soul

Those
whose views

are based upon

slight of hand

and demands
that you

to a higher standard
than

Those
whose views

cast shade on every step of progress

made to the process

those
whose vanity

those
who are not yet

yet
not, yet

come of age

we must embrace

who we are

all... of it

abandon
the false pride

our defense
against

of who we are

all
of us

must
first strip away

the layers of clay

of a mask

we entertain ourselves with
