Som en Æolsharpe brudt itu,
Men endnu ophængt ved Darros Bjergkant,
Seer jeg Dig, Alhambra, billedsmykket,
Rigt udskaaret; dog din største Skjønhed
Ligger i Erindringen om Klangen,
Tonerne fra dine brudte Strænge!
Klang, som Sværdet gav, som Snillet har den,
Dertil Elskovs Toner bløde, søde,
Svulmende til stormende Scirocco.
Brudt itu er Harpen, Resten hænger
Af den mellem sørgende Cypresser,
Kostbar rigt indlagt — det er Alhambra.
