Analysis of I Will Never Surrender

Oh to be a bird so high in the skies,
Free from the conflict and terrible lies.
The suffocating sadness is torn away
As I fly from sea to sea, dusk till day.
Flying so fast it clears my mind,
Up here it’s so much easier to see the sun shine.
This is all I need, a taste of adventure,
These powerful wings I will never surrender.

Oh to be a fish, so deep in the seas,
Free from the depression and all unease.
The tears no match for the massive pool,
Under the waves is where I rule.
I can be strong, I can be fast,
Under the water my domain is vast.
This is all I need, a taste of adventure,
These wonderful fins I will never surrender.

Oh to be a gopher, burrowing in the ground,
Free from the hurt, it can no longer be found.
The dirt packed around me so soft and warm,
This is my defense from all harm.
I will dig a kingdom big enough for two,
I’ll first find me, then I’ll find you.
This is all I need, a taste of adventure,
These beautiful claws I will never surrender.

About this poem

When I was battling depression, I made this poem to give myself hope. While many people see it as sad or depressing, I see it as hopeful and determined.
