Analysis of I knew her name, but not her soul

Joe Strickland 1986 (Hobbysville, SC)

Whiskey breath and cigarette smoke,
She stumbled into my life,
With eyes like hurricanes ready to provoke,
And a body poised for strife.

I couldn't resist her wild allure,
As she leaned in and whispered low,
"Let's forget about tomorrow,
And just let the moment flow."

One night in her arms,
Was all I needed to forget,
The pain and loneliness,
That clung to me like a net.

She was rough and ready,
A force to be reckoned with,
And I was just a willing participant,
In her game of sin.

Lustful thoughts, desires strong
The heat of passion, a siren's song
Pulling closer, breaths in sync
The moment's perfect, no time to think.

Eyes lock, hearts race
Fingers intertwined, a sensual embrace
Inhibitions fade, the urge to touch
Arousal builds, it's all too much.

Lips meet, a fiery spark
Electric energy, a flame in the dark
Tongues dance, bodies entwine
Pleasure's waves, a heady climb.

Breathless gasps, moans of deep delight
Warm skin, a musky scent in the night
The climax comes, pure ecstasy
In each other's arms, a momentary eternity.

A first sexual encounter, a first kiss
Two bodies melded in passion's bliss

But as the sun rose and she left,
I couldn't help but feel a sense of loss,
For I knew this was just a one night stand,
And that she would never be more than a toss.

So I drowned my sorrows in whiskey and beer,
And thought of her long into the night,
For a one night stand may be fleeting,
But the memories can burn bright.

Joe Strickland

I'm just a regular, blue collar, working stiff who took an interest in writing poetry many years ago but until recently I haven't had a desire to share any with anyone or pursue publication. I'm an unpublished fork lift operator by night, and a day drinker by choice. I can be followed on Twitter @JoeStricklandSC more…
