Analysis of Impossible Feat

Depression -
rising from it
an impossible feat,
an episode of defeat.
As if climbing a mountain, too steep,
Or crossing a river, wide and deep.
I felt that I’d lost those close to my heart
Drifting apart, like a sunken ship in the vast ocean.

But no matter how extreme the torment,
No matter how terrible I felt,
I tried my absolute best.
I still stood confidently,
Like a redwood sequoia tree.
I humbly put my hands up in the air,
And begged His gentle grace.
Boldly faced my battles,
Cried and sought help with praise.
I believed in the glimmer of light.
There was Hope in sight,
I know I was not the only one battling the fight.

Crushed spirit lifted,
Championed the healing,
I thought I will never gain.
Those tears and pains,
No longer relish my sanity.
I let the warmth of the sun’s rays
Dry my harrowing tears.
The coolness of the sea breeze
console my awful being.
And the presence of family and friends,
Upraised my vulnerable senses.

About this poem

My battle with depression has been on and off. It’s been agonizing, but I am grateful for those who have helped and are helping me. Not too many know I have been like this for years. It’s still a work in progress and thank God for the resources available around.
