Analysis of Dear Best Friend

Dear Bestfriend,
I don’t know where we went wrong
Or if we “went wrong”
At all

I know that we’ve grown
Further
And further
And further
Apart

After growing and learning
Together for so long
It’s strange

Ten years ago, I wouldn’t have thought we would be in this state
But here we are

I think it's healthy
Learning to travel apart
On two separate
Yet possibly parallel strands
Instead of competing
For who gets to stay ahead

But I still feel the ghost
Of, “what could’ve been”
The icy chill
When did the falling out begin?

There are times
When I’m stuck
In the past
Moments of flooding memories
That send me back

Yet,
Life finds a way
To push us forward
Where new opportunities
Apart
Are quartered

Whether it’s in someone new
Or a passion
That I’ve yet to pursue

So let us stay
On these separate strands
And if you want
We can still hold hands

Your Friend,
Angelina Mae Wilson

About this poem

This poem is very important to me because it talk about a ten year friendship that has gone through hundreds of ups and downs. I have finally pieces together a mature version of the things I would like to say to this person. I think it’s beautiful.
