He sat all dressed in black
She was in the casket
The casket was open
But it wasn't her

She wasn't pale
She had a certain shine to her
She was always
so upbeat
So energetic
She was
Alive
That's how he knew the woman
In that casket
Was not
Her

He walked home
He sat in his dark room
Her portrait on the wall
He stood up
He grabbed her portrait
He threw it
He screamed
He wept
He threw stuff
He broke stuff

He sat next to her grave
Crying
Begging
For her to return
He yelled at her
He tried to reason with her
Yet she wouldn't return

He lies in his bed
For days at a time
Days turned into months
The darkness has consumed him
His room a mess
Objects broken on the floor
Glass everywhere
Why did she leave him

He was shattered into pieces
He was the glass jars
He was the shattered glass
On the floor

She won’t come back
He can’t make her come back

He was the glass
He picked the glass
Up off the floor
He formed it and molded it
Into a new man
He cleaned up the pieces
She left behind

He Sailed away onto distant shores
He was the water in the ocean
He was the light of the sun
He was the flowers blooming in spring
She was gone
He had returned
