Analysis of My Way

Olivia Timko 2003 (Pennsylvania)

Rip me up like a sheet of paper
Crinkle me like tissue
Walk over me like pavement
Close me off like a hazard

Put me out like a flame
Change me like bed linens
Shut me down like an overheated machine
Forget about me like an imaginary friend

Cover me up like a secret
Wipe me away like a smudge on a window
Turn me down like loud music
Throw me out like a failed attempt at a recipe

Stifle me like an unwanted phrase
Leave me out like a pesky dog
Poke at me like a pin cushion
Reel me in like a fighting fish

You’ll never love me no matter how much I beg
I’ll never be the reason you write home
You’ll never introduce me to your mother
You’ll only hurt me, but you’ll do it my way
