Analysis of The Unicorn Maiden

David Inch 1954 (Kingston)

The Unicorn Maiden       By David Inch

In a dream I saw a woman
Like the woman only seen in a dream
Her beauty was pure and radiant
With skin like peaches and cream

She danced in a field of gold
Like a child without a care
Her smile could launch the royal fleet
I beheld a princess so fair

Off in the distance an animal appeared
Pure white with a golden horn
It came to the woman and joined in the dance
It was the legendary unicorn

This dream became reality
When I woke from sleep unladen
And I saw as she came upon me
That she was the unicorn maiden

We embraced each other tightly
As we danced in the field together
And I knew in my heart that she
Was the dream I could dream of forever

And with her maiden in love and so happy
The protector vanished with the wind
And as I love this princess for ever
She’ll remain my unicorn maiden

But every once in a while
We’ll dance where the unicorn roam
In the dream that brought her to me
With a love that we can call home

About this poem

I wrote this poem upon meeting my now wife. Our story reminded me of ancient love stories of magic and folklore. She was my dream come true, a Maiden of magic. Thus The Unicorn Maiden
