Analysis of To the girl who awaited adulthood

To the girl who awaited adulthood
As a flower eager to blossom

Neither thinking about the journey
Nor caring for the pleasures

‘Oh when will I grow up?
And see the world as you do?’

‘No need for that child
Because I envy you’

I envy the cheery heart
And the regard I had for life

The fascinations I once possessed
Don’t seem to look me in the eye

The curiosity that kept me all night
What would it be to pilot my own life

Little did i know what independence felt like
Free? But not quite

Who knew growing up would feel like a hike
Endless, no end, merely the incline

So hear this child, slow down and fancy your life
For the wonders you desire won’t seem too prime

And you’ll long for these early days
Although they lack worth in this time

Hold on to your youth, sweet child
As it will fly in the blink of an eye
