Analysis of The Ancient

I am the ancient.
I rule all creation.
The greatest of all beings,
Spanning across countless generation.

I wasn't born a god.
My mother birthed a mortal,
Who desired endless wealth,
Invincible power and life immortal.

Powerful people, powerful nobles,
Countless of their corpses
Became my stepping stone to apex.
But is it what I wanted.

Civilizations flourished, kingdoms fell
Stars breathed their last
While new ones shone with splendor
Watching it all, I, a great observer.

I wade through time immemorial.
All alone, all distant.
Faces of loved ones
Have become just bits of information.

I am tired.
I am lonely.
Closing my eyes I wait
To just fade out of existence.

Apex is not a place to be.
Loneliness seizing the heart.
Endless life, endless glory,
Nothing but a fool's dream.
