Analysis of A mothers pep talk

I wish I’d realised sooner
That the hard part wasn’t you
It was listening to what others thought
And believing it to be true.

I did you an injustice
The day i left my instincts on the shelf
To follow the advice of others
I should have listened to myself.

Nobody here is perfect
So why say what’s right or wrong
I’m trying my best
That’s all I have
I need me to be strong.
