Analysis of Path of Madness in Unknowing
Michelle Lee 1987 (Richmond)
I used to fear the constant depression. Now as I look upon the mirror I want to smash it into a thousand pieces. I wear fake smiles to hide every sorrow, the stars in my eyes are merely the tears that can not be shed. This iron armor only encages the beastly ghost of dissimulation. Perverse creature, hollow windows, bloody handprints ever more present on locked doors. Words without sound, wounds obstructed with malevolence. Deeper and deeper I’m falling into my own wonderland, no chance to claw my way to freedom. Perhaps…just perhaps I don’t wish to be found. As I chase this white rabbit, the ebony and crimson heart has led me back home. In my lavish secret world I find hope , at the bottom of a vial labeled “drink”, at the hushed whispers of all the nothings in my ear. Through the mirror my reflection speaks to me, “it’s simply mad how day by day we destroy ourselves so beautifully, so gracefully, in such insanity”. In a world that is mine, time ceases to exist. A world of my own, a portrait painted upon her wrists. As I have been, I am not as I was before. Who I am, what I am and nothing more.
