Analysis of Essential in Faith
Richard Newton Sherrer 1951 (Easton)
If Christ be preached raised from the dead,
Say not of no resurrection;
Never attempt to be misled,
And go in the wrong direction.
If there is no resurrection,
Then Christ not even had been raised;
It would be considered fiction,
No reason for Christ to be praised.
And if Jesus be not risen,
Then our preaching is in vain;
And the grave would be a prison,
Then Jesus Christ would never reign.
This would bear false witness of God,
Misrepresenting the crucified;
Causing the testament be flawed,
On what is being testified.
If the dead not resurrected,
Then not even Christ is risen;
And the concept is rejected,
Possibly going to Heaven.
Then having faith is futile,
As you would be still dead in sin;
In your immoral lifestyle,
No need for having discipline.
Then those who have fallen asleep,
As with Jesus will have perished;
There is no need for us to keep,
Memories that others cherished.
But in Jesus Christ we have hope,
In this life for into the next;
Miserable times that we cope,
Easing burdens of the perplexed.
But Christ has been raised from the dead,
As the firstfruits of those who slept;
Because the faith you have been fed,
As your Savior when you accept.
