Analysis of I Heard the Creep

There it is, the slightest shuffle, I know I've heard it albeit muffled.

It must be the creep. I know he's here. He's never far, and now he's near.

The night seems darker than I've ever known,
my eyes wading thru a velvet curtain,
another creak, even closer now,
And I am absolutely certain.

I must not breathe so loudly,
The creep will surely hear.
But a louder breath from wretched lungs
Wheezes towards my ear.

I see long twisted fingers
Gnarled like roots of an ancient tree.

I see sunken eyes
that seem to stare secretly at me.

I see crooked teeth
Chipped and bent beckoning to flee.

I see the creep
The smell makes me weak and dizzy in my head.

This is it. I proclaim.
Death looming at the bed.

I smile once and only once,
And cut off the sleeping creeps head.

I fall to my knees, the deed is done
But all that I can see.

Is blurring sight and darkest night
The creep was always me.
