About this poem

Quite recently I composed a poem entitled “Einstein-de Saussure-Jung,” suggesting by that title that an underlying metaphysical, or even psycho-spiritual feature of universal quantum nature, declared boldly in Einstein’s concept of quantum physics, and identified in Jungian psychology as indeterminate quanta of forms, described as archetypes; and in Saussure’s structural linguistic analysis as elements of phonemic quanta, revealed or at least suggested that all three theorists, either independently or collectively, were pursuing a “grand theory” or organizing principle as an explanation of “reality “ as imagined in its physical nature. In Saussure’s schema it appears as the arbitrary relationship between the “signifier” and the “signified “ governing human communication in linguistic time and space. For Carl Jung it is manifested as the relationship between concrete archetypal images and hypothesized abstract archetypes appearing in the illusive time and space of the human psyche; and for Albert Einstein it is demonstrated in the classic equation of E=MC2, depicting at the macro level the relativity of Time and Space. This haiku poem is one further attempt to shed light on a subject that remains eternally archaic, and is fittingly entitled “The Ultimate Signified,” suggesting its impenetrable nature that is metaphysically described as the great mystery or riddle of the Alpha and the Omega.
