Analysis of AVIAN FIENDS

Phil Roberts 1957 (Melbourne)

Avian fiends are winging
Their way through the evil night,
Sniffing out late journeyers
To snatch and take up high.

Watching every movement
By creatures great and small,
Then they swoop from above
Giving out a hellish squall:

To frighten off competitors
From their succulent prey,
As they clutch living morsels
Then carry them away.

Avian monsters searching
For lone animals, or men,
Killing everything they see
And quickly devouring them.

Knocking on your windows
With their lethal beaks,
Hoping to break the slumber
Of juicy bodies they seek.

Feather fiends are flapping
Through the doom-curse sky,
Prowling streets and alleyways
For tasty victuals about to die.

Avian fiends are winging
Around this sinister town,
Hoping to feed very soon
On anything, they bring down.
