Analysis of Root of Your Happiness

Amanda Biel 1988 (Dallas,TX)

The truth is no-one is responsible for your happiness. You have to make your own happiness in this life. If you go around depending on a man or woman to make you happy, you will go through life disappointed, heartbroken, and hurt. Its a hard fact of life and a hard lesson to learn. But, it is the truth in this crazy thing we call life. Some people are put in our lives to teach us lessons then they are meant to leave. They come in the forms of friends, enemies, sometimes even family. At times these lessons are painful and sometimes they will make us angry and others not so much. Others are meant to stay as friends and be a part of our happiness to share with us and build us up, to catch us when we fall, to make us feel safe, cared for, even loved. Then there is your life partner. The one to make us feel all of the above and soo much more. To share intimacy and love, our deepest thoughts and secrets to be the one you want to spend your life with. This person you will be completely exposed with and your guards will fall... They will give you things you never knew existed or even wanted. But, he or she is still only a portion of your happiness. They aren't meant to be all of it. If you base your sole happiness off another person you are setting them up to fail and yourself to be disappointed and hurt, It is too much to to ask for someone to take on for another person. Its these moments in life that will teach us the hardest and deepest lessons

About this poem

I wrote this when I was struggling through some hard times and self discovery. It was then I truly realized these words.
