Analysis of Shadow Me
Samuel B. Duff 1981 (Michigan)
It’s been too long
Since I took the time
To empty out my head
And I’ll admit that I’m
F’ing scared
What might be
Tangled in those webs
Cause all along
My empathy’s grown
Rotten in this heart
To survive
I’ll purge everything
My ruins on the edge
Light or dark
For supremacy
Which dies
And which exists
I’m torn between
These two parts of me
Impaled upon a fence
Slowly partitioning
Til I am worlds apart
If I fight
Might save everything
Or lose it all instead
Shadow me
Shadow me
I can’t give you this
The shadow me
Is under everything
I’ll never rest again
Shadow me
Shadow me
I can’t let you in
The shadow me
Is shrouding everything
Til darkness fills my head
Shadow me
Shadow me
I can’t let you win
My shadow me
Will keep taking everything
Til nothing fills my head
