When you died…
Were you aware?
Were you awake?
Were you afraid?

When you died…
Did you see memories?
Did you see your life?
Did you see my face?

When you died…
Did you feel sadness?
Did you feel relief?
Did you feel grateful?

When you died…
I know you were tired.
I know you were overwhelmed.
I know you had enough.

When you died…
My life was forever changed.
My world collapsed.
My pain began.

When you died…
I know you were finally at peace…
But part of me died too…

About this poem

This poem was written after my husband passed away and I was thinking about what he went through and how I’ve struggled.
