Poems »

I have struggled with addiction for many years, and thought myself unworthy of love. I therefore shut myself off from even trying. Although I am in recovery now, the feelings of guilt and shame over the destruction caused by my disease grew stronger with time and threatened my sobriety. I was depressed and often thought the world would be better off without me until the most beautiful, caring and inspirational woman saw something in me and decided to say hello. That small act of kindness flourished, as did I and turned into the most beautiful love I have ever experienced. She saved my sobriety, but more importantly she saved my life. I hope if nothing else, this poem and the motivation behind it inspires someone to not give up. Because through the darkest times, there is always a light...I love you Catherine.
