Analysis of My Patch - My Garden - A Short Story

My Patch – My Garden

As l look out to my patch – my garden I feel blessed to have this tiny bit of nature on my doorstep. It is spring and the apple tree in my back garden is in full bloom. Soft pink petals beside deeper red buds that are still to bloom. The contrasting colours are beautiful to see. The blossom fills the air with a sweet delicate fragrance. A bumble bee has appeared buzzing and breaking the peace. She has her work to do as she busies herself pollinating the tree. Oh, I do hope in a few years the young tree will produce apples. It is a self-pollinating tree so I only bought the one tree.

I turn around and look at the forest flame with its bright and vibrant red leaves. They shine brightly in the sunshine. I feel a leaf, surprisingly the texture is a little rough like my cat’s tongue but such a beautiful colour of red. Then I hear the sound of bird song coming from the trees in the little field beside my house. My eyes fall upon the dandelions and weeds I have not yet pulled up, yet they too have their place in nature.

The bird bath will need filled with fresh water to entice the birds. It is lovely to see a blackbird or sparrow fluttering its wings in the bird bath, cooling down from the summer sun. Today however it is still spring and my shrubs and trees are a different stages of their life. My cherry blossom tree has shed its beautiful pink petals and now I see the lush green leaves in their place.

Mr. Squirrel sometimes appears in my garden looking for bird seeds and nuts. I gave him a lot of monkey nuts which he enjoyed eating. Now I find the shells crunching under my feet. The white woodchip mulch compliments the deeper colours of the shrubs.

The rosebush in my front garden is filled with lush green leaves. The tiny buds are closed for now. They are sleeping as it is too early for them to bloom. They need warmer weather where they will wake from their slumber and open their petals to the summer sun. All is well with my patch.
