Walrond was born in Edinburgh, and educated at Rugby School. He emigrated to South Africa in 1904. He worked as a bank manager, apparently in Pretoria, until his retirement in 1934. He was a founder of the Veldsinger's Club. After retiring in 1934, he moved to Isipingo, Natal.
