Someone Who Isn't Me

I wish you could understand
Who I am inside.
Instead of letting my thoughts be known,
I run away and hide.

I have been told
That I would amount to nothing.
To just accept that fact
And not waste time by fussing.

I am far from being the person
I always wanted to be.
Someone with more to offer.
Someone who isn't me.

I try to be a good mom,
I try to be a good friend.
But I tend to let people down,
Always in the end.

No matter how hard I try,
It is never quite enough.
Fullfilling everyone's needs of me
Can be incredibly tough.

I wish others can understand
That all I want to be
Is simply someone
Who isn't me.
