I Woke Up in a Painting

Robert Haigh

I woke up in a painting
Hanging on the wall,
Not really understanding
The meaning of it all.

A dream within a dream,
Or life beyond the veil?
I could not comprehend this
Frightening fairy-tale!

I woke up in a painting,
Not knowing where I stood.
Did some great master paint me,
Just because he could?
