The One to Blame

If there were reasons why, would I be one?
As I look back, I feel there’s more I could have done
Was I too self-centered to know you needed me?
There were telltale signs that I chose not to see
Is it wrong to feel responsible for what has occurred?
Am I seeing things clearly or is my vision just blurred?
The last time we talked you expressed your pain
I didn’t respond and it’s driving me insane
I could have helped you; you could have seen the light
If I didn’t leave you behind WE would have fought this fight
Where were your loved ones, where was I?
I wish I could take your place, that’s no lie
You were too young, too nice, and way too loved
You should be here helping earth, not up above
I can sit here all day and wonder why
Why you’re not here, why you chose to die.
The end result is sadly always the same.
No matter what, I find myself, the one to blame.
