Freedom

Imprisoned in grim cell
of dark, cement wall,
in darkness compelled,
for freedom man calls.

The door opens, and here
in vast depth of space,
light crystal  and clear
sheds gently its rays.

Down reaches from heaven
a voice tender and strong
instructing the heathen
to know right from wrong.

The man from the cell
heard Jesus' sweet voice,
his heavy chains fell
with a clattering noise.

Man trusted and followed
and knew no more fear,
the long cherished freedom
was finally here.
