I wasn’t there but I can see,
all the atrocities that took place long before me.
My heart bleeds for those before,
the horror that was theirs chills me to the core.
To hear the stories and read the words,
Are some of the worst I have ever heard.
While other children believed in once upon a time,
My fairytales weren’t so kind..
I learned of truths that were thrown to the wind,
Or ground in the dust that buried our kin.
I learned the truth can be dark as death,
I learned the truth can steal your breath.
Its in my bones,my blood ,my soul,
It burns in my spirit as a lump of coal.
My voice will be loud, my voice will be clear,
I’ll speak the truth and have no fear.
Tears of blood is what I cry,
For all the innocents that had to die.
The malice the hate the greed the lies,
A mother who watches her child die.
Promises made, only to be broken,
A blanket of disease given as a token.
To keep us warm in the snow and the rain,
Many of us perished so who’s to blame.
Lets forget sweep it under the rug,
Tell them bedtime stories sealed with a hug.
Its been so long ago, its all been forgotten,
While our bodies lie in graves rotten
You say they have houses, running water electricity,
We even put them on a Reservation and called them free.
Can I, will I forget the truth……
Never because IAM........... PAIUTE.(pie-yoot)
