My Home Town

Some refer to it as ‘my home town’
While others ‘our city by the Foyle’
But whatever name is used it refers
To an ancient Irish city of renown.

From its Celtic roots it has flourished
Through a period of political chaos
And the later struggle for Civil Rights
Plus the massacre of Bloody Sunday.

But within the city there is a sense of
Renewal and a coming together of its
Citizens to express their society which
Was blessed by God via St. Colmcille.

A city of culture of world- wide renown
Who gave us singers, playwrights, poets,
Musicians, etc, who touched the hearts of
                                      Many throughout planet earth.

Oh, yes, it is the adopted city of Colmcille
Who loved its people as never before. A love
Which is now apparent and symbolised by
                                      Derry opening a welcoming door.
