No peace

Nirvana, bliss, not a sound, not a hiss
Car speeds by
Peace
Shattered

Night shuns day, all noise away!
Engines blare, a blaze somewhere
Peace
A million tiny pieces

It’s two by now, amplified whispers
Children chattering on the outside in
I complain
Peace again

Neighbour bumps party thumps
There’s no rhyme trying to reason
It’s four by now, a revelry bow
When I am to awaken

Earth trembles
The rumbling gut demands fed
Cleanliness is next to Godliness
The butcher boy said

Day replaces night
Churning shudders, I alight
Hungry
Forever hungry

People platter
Flitter flatter with a smitten smatter
Chippie opens; fish in batter
‘Red sauce an’ a roll wi’ butter please’

Day is drowsy
I feel lousy
Tomorrow, always craving more
I turn away and close the door

Day is done
Inhale, exhale
Composed
Peace again
