Listen to the Wind

Listen to the wind when its hush
transforms into twirls of laughter,
dancing with the ghostly gods till the break of dawn,
suddenly, pushed aside by the serene but mighty queen,
the golden sun who claims the day.

Listen to the wind who insists on howling,
disturbing the spirits of the dell, waking them from
their spectral dreams which force them to
flitter above the treetops, weaving in agitation
at the intrepid bluster----cursing its forceful proximity.

Listen to the wind whose anger turns into rage,
defying all who block its savage path,
a roaring lion chasing its prey until it is caught,
joyful in its feast of destruction and satiated for
the moment until its hunger bellows again.

Sonia Walker

I have been writing poetry, short stories and articles of interest for over thirty years. Most of my writing has been published in small presses, journals and weekly community newspapers. It is enjoyable to receive positive feedback on my writing. Before retirement, I was an editor and co-publisher for a quarterly journal and monthly newsletter from Anchorage, Alaska. My philosophy is to write something everyday to keep the cobwebs away. more…
