The drummer beat the call to arms
But no one moved for all was calm
All on parade 'neath stones so white
Such a solemn, somber sight
But in the corner of the field
A lad stood tall no arms to wield
No suit of armour or battle dress
But in his hands a regiments crest
He never uttered a single word
Then sang a song as sweet as a bird
Whilst from his eyes rained tiny tears
Melting the hearts of those older by years
As the sun then set as it had before
The bugler played last post for sure
And in the corner of the field
The lad was gone his fate long sealed
