the morning walk

along the canal path I early walk
watching the awakening day arise
so many things so many thoughts
as startled squirrels my steps surprise,

a cool breeze kisses my sun warmed cheek
the scent of dew strong as shadows shrink
perfumed vapors of grass that's thick
such quiet in solitude allows me to think,

chattering birds fluttering, awakened, surprised
my loud steps, solemn crunching sounds emit;
amidst the stoic silence tall bending trees rise
glistening rays of sun on the giggling river sit,

scattered thoughts rippling along rivers splashing shore
newborn wavelets flow swiftly forward as steadfastly I tread
the day's destiny will slowly reveal what else tis to explore
for sadly soon this morning's journey is ending I dread,

then shall I look happily forward to a noon walk instead ... ?
