La jacinthe

Rene Francois Armand Prudhomme 1839 (Paris) – 1907 (Châtenay-Malabry)



Dans un antique vase en Grèce découvert,
D'une tombe exhumé, fait d'une argile pure
Et dont le col est svelte, exquise la courbure,
Trempe cette jacinthe, emblème aux yeux offert.

Un essor y tressaille, et le bulbe entr'ouvert
Déchire le satin de sa fine pelure ;
La racine s'épand comme une chevelure,
Et la sève a déjà doré le bourgeon vert.

L'eau du ciel et la grave élégance du vase
L'assistent pour éclore et dresser son extase,
Elle leur doit sa fleur et son haut piédestal.

Du poète inspiré la fortune est la même :
Un deuil sublime, né hors du limon natal,
L'exalte, et dans les pleurs germe et croît son poème.
