L'Hypocondriaque

Maurice Rollinat 1846 (Châteauroux) – 1903 (Ivry-sur-Seine)



Enténébrant l’azur, le soleil et les roses,
Tuant tout, poésie, arômes et couleurs,
L’ennui cache à mes yeux la vision des choses
Et me rend insensible à mes propres malheurs.

Sourd aux événements que le destin ramène,
Je sens de plus en plus se monotoniser
Les sons de la nature et de la voix humaine
Et j’ai l’indifférence où tout vient se briser.

Et du jour qui s’allonge à la nuit qui s’attarde,
Automate rôdeur, pâle et gesticulant,
Je passe, inconscient des regards que je darde
Et du bruit saccadé que je fais en parlant.

Rien dont mon noir esprit s’indigne ou s’émerveille !
Mon œil incurieux vieillit la nouveauté ;
Et veillant comme on dort et dormant comme on veille,
Je confonds la lumière avec l’obscurité.

Et démon avec qui la terreur se concerte,
L’inexorable ennui me corrode et me mord,
Ne laissant plus au fond de mon âme déserte
Que la seule pensée horrible de la mort.
