Les marnières mornes et creuses
Sont les gouffres jaunes des champs.
Jamais de reptiles méchants
Dans ces caves si peu pierreuses !

Mais pour les grenouilles peureuses
Quels marécages alléchants !
Les marnières mornes et creuses
Sont les gouffres jaunes des champs.

L’aube y met ses clartés heureuses,
Ses voix, ses rires et ses chants ;
Et par les beaux soleils couchants,
Elles ont des rougeurs ocreuses,
Les marnières mornes et creuses.
