Puis-je te célébrer autant que je le dois,
Cher interlocuteur au langage mystique ?
Hier encor, le chagrin, ruisselant de mes doigts,
T’arrachait un sanglot funèbre et sympathique.
Sois fier d’être incompris de la vulgarité !
Beethoven a sur toi déchaîné sa folie,
Et Chopin, cet Archange ivre d’étrangeté,
T’a versé le trop-plein de sa mélancolie.
Le rêve tendrement peut flotter dans tes sons ;
La volupté se pâme avec tous ses frissons
Dans tes soupirs d’amour et de tristesse vague ;
Intime confident du vrai musicien,
Tu consoles son cœur et son esprit qui vague
Par ton gémissement, fidèle écho du sien.
